Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I have a boat built or converted at Entreprises Léo LeBlanc et Fils inc ?
From the first coat of resin to the last stroke of paint, we are committed to the building of quality, dependable, safe, longlasting and goodlooking boats.
Several of our employees have over 10 years of experience, and some even 20 years. Also,we regularly offer training to our employees.
We have noticed that very few repairs are done on our boats, some having been at sea for close to 20 seasons, while we regularly do major repairs on our competitors' boats.
Do you only sell turnkey boats or is it possible to purchase a kit?
We do not sell assembly kits per se. It is possible however, to purchase a boat at various stages of construction. Several of our clients have the structures built (hull, watertight bulkheads, deck and wheelhouse) and install the heavy equipment and complete the work themselves. Our store allows clients to find all the necessary equipment and material under one roof.
How long does it take to build a boat?
The time it takes to build a boat depends on the size and the level of finishing requested. A hull in a mould takes two weeks to build while a hull built in a traditional fashion can take anywhere from six to eight weeks.
An entire lobster fishing boat can take from three to four months to build while a crab fishing boat can take from seven to ten months.
What type of engines do you have in your boats?
We are not dealers for any brand of engines. We install the engine the buyer choses. We recommend an engine according to the needs of the buyer, the trust the buyer has in a particular brand and the customer service available in his area after buying.
What are the essential conditions for building a quality fiberglass boat?
In order to have quality fiberglass, in addition to competant workmanship and material of superior quality, several elements must be considered. Due to its chemical makeup, fiberglass reacts to heat, humidity and dust. It is of utmost importance to control the work environment.
Clients often associate thickness and strength. Even if this is theoretically true, we have noticed in practice that thickness can be synonymous with poor quality work. The thickness is often due to the presence of air bubbles between the layers of material, work which is poorly done and weakens the product.
Our employees understand the importance of this phenomenon and work hard to avoid it.
